Many patients come to us with questions about toothbrushes. There are several different types of toothbrushes, but how do you know which is the right one for you? We asked Dr. Chad Johnson a couple questions about toothbrushes, and this is what he had to say:
What is the difference between manual, spinbrush, and electric toothbrushes?
Manuals are good for basic care, spinbrushes are better, and electrics are the best. Spinbrushes are better than manuals, and they certainly improve your general oral health.
Do spinbrushes actually clean my teeth better than a regular brush?
Yes, they actually do! They’re also exciting for kids. They’re a great alternative for the elderly and for those who may have manual dexterity issues.
Where do I get an electric toothbrush?
You can find electric toothbrushes for purchase either here at our office, or you can find them at your local drug store or even a supermarket.
Are they worth the investment overall?
From our perspective, we believe electric toothbrushes are well worth the investment. Even though they do cost more, their performance far outweighs the actions of what the others can do. The most important thing you can do, however, is simply to brush your teeth – regardless of the type of brush you decide to go with!
